If you are reading this message,
you have found one of the best kept secrets in all of Florida….the
community of Venice. On behalf of the 1,200 members of the
Venice Area Chamber of Commerce, we want to extend you a warm
welcome. Whether you are here for a short weekend or longer,
you will sense the quality of life that will draw you back
again or, in some cases, make you very glad you made the move.
Venice is a warm, friendly community.
Whether you like shopping in the unique stores of the downtown
Venice Main Street district or prefer golfing, boating,
fishing, or just laying on the beach, our five community area
of Osprey, Laurel, Nokomis, Venice and South Venice has it
all.
There are a number of special surprises
awaiting you in the Venice area, such as our Venetian Waterway
Park, a linear park that parallels both sides of the
Intracoastal Waterway providing almost 10 miles of waterfront
view for exercise and recreational use. Along the park, you
can also visit our recently restored Venice Train Depot at the
northeast end. In its day, the depot greeted those who had the
greatest impact on creating the Venice we know today. Like the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the U.S. Army Air Corp.,
the Kentucky Military Institute (KMI) and Ringling Brothers,
Barnum and Bailey Circus all of whom left their mark on our
area.
For even more history, check out Historic
Spanish Point in Osprey. A trip to this attraction will
provide you with great insight into the life and times of our
early pioneers. Or, if you want to go further back in time,
you can search for sharks teeth on our beaches.
As the Venice Chamber begins its 83rd year,
we remain a strong member-involved chamber and we would be
most happy to have you stop in our offices to learn even more
about the greater Venice area. We are located on the Island of
Venice, directly across U.S. Business 41 from Venice Regional
Medical Center. In addition to providing our employees a
modern work atmosphere and our membership a location to meet
and host community functions, our facility also serves as a
valuable resource for visitors and newcomers. You can learn
about the many amenities the Venice area has to offer.
Once again, welcome to the Venice community.
We very much hope you enjoy your visit and that you will
return again soon. Please use this guidebook as a resource
while you are here. we hope you will use this guidebook as a
source of information about our area. it is full of
information about our community and can help you find the
accommodations, shops, dining and all the other services that
our members provide. It will also be a wonderful resource when
you decide to make the Venice area your new home!
