As another school year ends, the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce takes great pride in reflecting on the invaluable connections we've helped foster between our local businesses and the next generation of leaders. Through initiatives like our Real World program at Venice High School, we bring Chamber Member Businesses directly to students, allowing them to hear firsthand accounts of the many paths taken to success. These stories—full of unexpected turns and lessons learned—highlight the wealth of opportunity available right here in our hometown.
With over 40 businesses represented, our students were able to discover a reality that surprised many: local companies are not just willing to hire them but are also eager to invest in their futures. Whether through hands-on training, mentorship, or even funding for higher education, these businesses recognize the immense value of cultivating homegrown talent.
Beyond Real World, the Chamber has been a committed supporter of the high school’s Building Trades program. By convening conversations between Mr. Griswold, the program’s instructor, and many business owners across industries like construction, electrical, and plumbing, we’ve facilitated essential discussions on workforce readiness. What do trade businesses seek in employees? How does the current curriculum align with industry needs? These conversations ensure that our students graduate with skills that truly prepare them for success.
Additionally, we’ve helped connect students with essential hands-on learning opportunities. When businesses donate equipment—such as an air conditioning unit in need of repair, students gain real-world experience in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and rebuilding. This type of engagement is exactly why our local trade businesses proudly display banners in support of the program outside their classroom area. They don’t just believe in this program; they actively invest in it.
At the Chamber, we take immense pride in being a resource for both our local businesses and our students. By creating these partnerships, we’re not just shaping careers, we’re strengthening the future of our community.
Beyond our efforts in career readiness, the Chamber is also deeply invested in fostering civic engagement through our Teen Leadership program. This seven-month journey introduces students to the organizations and industries that shape our community, giving them an inside look at the impact of Arts & Culture, Health & Human Services, Law Enforcement, History, Commerce, and Industry.
By immersing students in these sectors, we aim to spark a sense of passion and purpose—whether that means lending a helping hand or stepping forward to lead. Through firsthand experiences, conversations with professionals, and meaningful insights into the roles these organizations play, we hope students will discover something that inspires them to take an active role in strengthening the community they call home. This program is open to all high school students in the area. Applications are open now.
As we wrap up this school year, we couldn’t be more excited about what lies ahead. With the continued support of our incredible local businesses, the dedication of our educators, and the enthusiasm of our students, the future looks bright. We look forward to another year of connection, growth, and opportunity—ensuring that together, we build a stronger, more vibrant community for generations to come.
